CASE HISTORY

Wausau Tile needed a dispensing system for small batches for their tile coloring application. With color, being able to consistently produce the same color tile every time is a necessity.

The larger dispensing systems they already had in place were not capable of dispensing with the accuracy needed. The batches being produced were often rejected for color mismatch.

The OEM that would provide the new batching system, SPEC, Inc., decided (based on tests with the material) that vibratory feeders would provide the best solution to reach the necessary speed and accuracy. The SPEC, Inc. president and chief engineer has had a lot of experience in the past using vibratory feeders and chose JVI based upon information he received from the company and his own research indicating the high accuracy level of the JVI dosing feeders.

The key benefit of the overall system is batch to batch repeatability. With tiles, being able to consistently produce the same color every time is a necessity. The system is able to perform this repeatability, even at a very high accuracy and rate, thanks to the JVI dosing feeders.

This batching system is designed to dispense a formula with an accuracy of 0.5 grams. Speed was also a necessity regarding Wausau Tile. The system had to be able to dispense up to a five pound batch at the .5 gram accuracy, mix the powder ingredients with water, and transfer the material to the larger batching tank of concrete within five minutes. Also, it needed to be simple to operate; thus the use of a PC to control the dispensing, enter formulas, and keep inventory records. It is a simple point and click interface.

Wassau Tile is very happy with the results and color in the tiles is consistent 6 months after installation.
